How’s your work history?
Hi guys I'm wanting to get into one of the company sponsored truck driving programs. I'm an older guy,57 to be exact. How hard is it to get into a company driver program and what do they look for? Are they particular when it comes to prior work experience? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Robert
Welcome, Robert! Here are some of the things companies like to see in new applicants:
1) Clean driving history 2) No drug or alcohol use, clean urine test, clean hair follicle test. 3) Steady work history 4) Blood pressure good 5) No prescriptions on the forbidden list. 6) Your age is not a problem, might even be an advantage. 7) No criminal history. 8) Not blind 9) Solid work ethic 10) Able and willing to accept training and instruction
What you did for work previously doesn't matter but if you have gaps in work history be prepared to explain why and what you were doing then. They dont like gaps, especially if you have no good reason as to why, or were "out of country". Like Bruce says, age may be advantageous as it usually means years of driving experience and mental maturity. Good luck!
