Mounted where Turtle?

On a bird perch on my mirror. You're gonna laugh, it's kind of a redneck setup, but functional.

Because of the antenna length, it's more susceptible to the wind. So I have a piece of 1/4" lexan vice gripped to the mirror, and the antenna runs through a grommet in the lexan, providing some support.

Yeah Yeah I know. But it works!

What? No duct tape needed?

Cool!

That really looks.....different? Unique?

Hey, as long as it works well, itโ€™s a hit!

You know what they say; If it's stupid and it works, it's not stupid!

I also have a Cobra 29 LT. Had mine peaked and tuned though costed 35 dollars. Works great. And that's interesting stuff on the Galaxy Turtle because i was really considering buying one soon. Glad you said that.

Did you have to reroute coax to the perch? If so, did you have to remove panels?

I just ran the coax right out past the door hinges. There's enough give in the door seals to allow the coax to pass through. No panels removed.

I also used a stock Cobra 29 Classic. No frills, dependable. But I recently came across a new Galaxy DX 929 and threw it in for the heck of it. No noticeable difference in performance.

Any "before vs. after" info on the "peak and tune"? Where? $35 seems very reasonable if it provided even a modest improvement.

All CB's with "factory tune" - perform reasonably similar. The key to performance is tuning for the antenna and cable in the vehicle to the unit - and every setup is going to be different.

I have a 29LX with output mod, echo mod and a few other things thrown in. Cuts through on TX, still about the same on RX. It's not obnoxious like the guys running the 100 Watt LA's (dontcha hate those guys sometimes?), gets the job done though.

I'm a complete noob when it comes to CB's. I had a mirror mount that I just got for the 16 cascadia, but I have the 19 now and it won't fit. I still haven't picked out an antenna, so I really should go to a CB shop, but I never seem to have the time to do it. I'm using the factory molded in antenna and it's garbage. I have an old Radio Shack CB, so don't laugh. ๐Ÿ˜‚

It absolutely is I have uniden bearcat 880 I think my range is like half a mile. When was assigned to the Kenworth with the same CB on the factory antenna I had a couple miles of range.

I am taking my dad to dinner in Valpo IN maybe we will detour on the way home and see beautiful Gary In and I will pick up one at the TA.

They have a decent selection there. It's too bad you weren't going during a weekday when the CB shop is open. The guy that runs it, Rick sells some in there as well.
