Uhaul is NOT commercial. Many states will not even require you to pull into scales but some states have signs saying ALL trucks over 5 tons must weigh. Uhaul 26 foot truck is 12,600 empty and maximum load of 9,000 for total of 21,500. Car hauler is Capacity Max load: 5,290 lbs. Gross vehicle weight: 7,500 lbs. max. Empty weight: 2,210 lbs. You're required a cdl (and medical card) if your vehicle is rated for over 26,000 pounds, and combination endorsement is needed if trailer is rated over 10,000. Uhaul would not be renting you this if it wasnt legal. Ultimately it's your responsibility, but uhaul would face as stiff of penalties as you would.

I live in Florida and moving this Friday to North Carolina with a 26' U-Haul and car trailer GCWR over 10k lbs. Do not have a CDL license yet. But will look to get on with a paid CDL training company once I am moved. Florida does not require a medical card for non commercial use rentals. The "High Road Training" exam question shown (from Illinois) states that you do need a medical card. Will I need one in Georgia and the Carolinas ?
