Inside resides an old man with no sexual desire and no cash. Been there, done that and now I just want to sleep and dream about what I used to do. Go away."
OH............So You're the one that stole my sign!
Truck stops are being scrutinized for "human trafficking", and many simple prostitution arrests are turning into human trafficking arrests.
Rick
To be fair - its ALWAYS been like that, but the focus was never on human trafficking. It was always about busting those dang hookers!
Turns out, we (society) probably could have put a huge dent in this if we took it seriously in the 60s-70s-80s-90s...instead of letting those modern day slave traders build giant, powerful, international human trafficking cartels.
We just didn't know better - but now we do, and I think its for the better!
There is an organization fighting human trafficking in the trucking industry. Truckers Against Trafficking? Can somebody post that info here. The idea is to get truckers to call the number whenever they get the knock on the door. If women are being forced to go door to door at truck stops, don't just turn them away. Call the police. Hopefully, the police can arrest the pimps.

Marc, thank you. Schneider provided us with that number to keep in our trucks. I had it handy when I was driving. Very important.

Welcome!

Someone in our class used the term "Lot Lizzards" so we got to watch the video. Happens every class, apparently. The woman featured and her best friend (not in video) were abducted at a Wendy's after going there for Frosty's. They were raped, beaten and abused and terrorized into staying in that life until a truck driver called the police and they were rescued.
Let's be part of the solution and not the problem! PLEASE!
Thank you!

(New addition): Experts in this field say the majority of the people who do this are under some form of coercion. The story above resulted in freeing numerous victims, several arrests and the shutdown of a major trafficking ring - from one phone call!
I had one knock on my door at the flying j in Indianapolis last October. Asked if she could come in and warm up.

Andrew, you only told us part of the story. Were you a nice guy and let her in for some hot chocolate?

I didn't think I'd be responding to this thread, but here I go...
For new drivers coming into the industry, these encounters with prostitutes are rare. In the last seven years I believe I've been approached by three or four women wanting to sell sex for money. It's not something I've ever needed to purchase.
I just wanted to share the strangest encounter I experienced. It was in Iowa and a blizzard had shut down the interstate. A lot of us were slammed into a Flying J for four days straight. Trucks were everywhere and the snow was about three and a half feet deep. Even the lanes you drive through at the truck stop had trucks jammed up in them along with the fuel island. Even if the snow was gone you wouldn't be able to move your truck - we were packed in there like sardines.
The Denny's restaurant ran completely out of food on the second day. I was feeding nearby drivers from my food supplies on my truck. You couldn't get anything. Even with ready money there was just nothing available because no trucks could deliver. Well, there was one thing available. I found out about one a.m. when someone woke me up knocking on my door. Honestly, I thought it was someone who had heard I was giving out food. Nope, it was a scantily clad woman out there in the snow wanting to heat things up with some willing fool. I guess business was good on that cold winter night, but I sure didn't contribute to her revenues. That was one "cold call" that didn't result in a sale.
