Hybrid electric.
I saw one of them too, at Hershey
Usually, hybrid electric is used to save gas in personal vehicles in the city. I don't know if electric has the torque to make that work with larger vehicles.

If that were true, then train locomotives would NOT be Diesel-Electric.

Right?
And the electric motors in cars - are some of the torque-iest out there.
I just wonder how much the batteries weigh, and how much that decreases total hauling capacity.

I agree rick is that added weight from the motor and batteries added to the diesel engine weight effective to save enough money in fuel to make it worth carrying less freight

Tesla is talking about a Class 8 truck. And a company called Nikola (since the Tesla name is already taken) has been trying to bring one to market for a few years, they were even taking deposits at one point - wonder of anyone got a REFUND since they were supposed to be 12 months out, and still haven't brought one to market. Originally they were gas turbine, now they're talking hydrogen cell.
They're coming - but I think we'll see Semi-Autonomous proliferating in the marketplace, before we see electrics. Bad enough to find a parking spot - imagine trying to find a charge station? These batteries are not lightweights, and have incidents of explosion (in the case of lithium, used to save weight).
