Got an email the other day from a recruiter at JB Hunt. (how he got my email I have no clue)
This was a dedicated job delivering boats to the west coast. Actually sounded like an interesting job and, according to the email, paid pretty well.
Check it out!
Maybe we can make a trade or two. I find myself a bit long on JBH hats and a shirt!
Looked at delivering motorhomes before deciding to get my CDL. My research suggested it would be more of a hobby than a careerI've spoken with a few people who have done this and I'd agree. They barely make enough money to make it worth doing at all. One guy, in fact, said that it basically pays for the fuel for him to travel to different places. He'll go to the factory and get a 5th wheel or travel trailer that goes to an area he'd like to stay in for a little while. He'll camp in that area for a while and then return to get another one. It doesn't pay much.
Brett, that is consistent with my research.
Also, they don't allow you to use the (plastic bagged) mattress and don't want you filling propane, watet tanks, etc.. You are considered the transporter, not "camper #1". "Toad vehicle" allowed/recommend for return trip (motorhome runs). Same companies also often deliver FedEx, UPS and (power) utility company vehicles but they DON'T ALLOW you to hook a small vehicle to get home in (aka the "Toad") to their new CMV's.
Again... H O B B Y !
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A CMV is a vehicle that is used as part of a business, is involved in interstate commerce, and may fit any of these descriptions:
