Was tempted, did not. One thing learned from working for a multi billion dollar world wide corporate conglomerate close to becoming management. If you can't make an irrefutable point without the facts (talking to the issue), keep your mouth shut, listen, and learn.
Last week I was at our terminal in. Cedar Rapids getting a routine service on my truck. I was there 2-3 hours napping in the drivers lounge . There was another driver in there but we didn't really speak. One of the guys came in to tell me my truck was ready. I told him thank you so much for them getting to me so fast. The other guy jumped up and said "What?? I've been waiting here all day and I don't even think they've started on mine!" and proceeded to yell at the mechanic. We slipped through an office and into a side door to get away from him and back into the shop where my truck was waiting for me. I said something to the effect about some drivers not being grateful . Several mechanics busted out laughing and said if they had their way, he'd still be waiting next week.
So I'm guessing the whiner would say our company is a crap company lol. All I know its we're on the bottom of the totem pole as drivers and if you don't develop strong positive relationships with the people who can make you or break you, any company could be a crap company.
Just saying...
A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.
I don't feel at the bottom of the totem pole at all. Even mechanics tell me "thank you for giving us a job". But courtesy is reciprocal. In the summer I give the mechanics cold water bottles and snacks. They often come.say hi even if they are working in a different bay. Last night a mechanic told me he will work on me first before others. They ask me about my cat and mom. One guy laughed at me and told me he flagged my truck as "combative with a smile". I told him he isnt getting anymore treats lol.
I totally agree with Susan... act like an idiot and you lose respect. I am fortunate to have a set support team, and even though we have 9,000 drivers, I am known. Even if i call and say hi, they know my voice before i tell who i am. Yes my name shows on their phone, but I often get "Hey, there's my Jersey buddy" or something to that effect.
But of course..I work for a crappy mega carrier so I must be getting screwed and miserable. I am just too stupid to know it. Somehow the fact that my bank account is full and I am happy means nothing.
Different things are important to different people. I am a snobby elitist. I expect certain things and amazingky i get them. That is good enough for me.
