Never trust the shippers weight given on the BOL. I'm on a 2200 mile load and my gross is 79,400 lbs with 1/4 tank of fuel. According to their paperwork, there is 41,000 lbs in the trailer. NOT! More like 45,500 lbs. I've been stopping for 50 gallons of fuel each time, at least twice every day.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
If you say itll be a short, easy day something will go wrong.
If you get a late start, count on the universe to be at odds with you that day: construction, scales are all OPEN, accidents, slow cars around you, bad weather, you need fuel and it's a 35 minute backup at the fuel island, tornadoes, locusts, meteors, etc., etc.....
The load that will get you HOME for a few days is delayed 24 hours.

When you are securing your privacy curtains, you will wrap the strap around your seatbelt like you've done 50 before.
Your bunk heater will only malfunction when it's 20 degrees or colder.

Advice on that--run your bunk heater at least once each month for an hour, even in the middle of summer. Keeps the parts lubricated.

Courtesy among other truckers is almost gone. They are going to pass you even though they don't have the power to do so. Or they pass you and as soon as your front bumper is clear, they pull right in front of you. Happened twice this morning before 5am mdt.

So, I am just a newbie learning the ropes, but so far I have already discovered a couple Murphy's Laws for truckers. What are some laws you more experienced folk know?
The ones I have learned so far are:
1. There will always be road construction on every trip, no exceptions.
2. That car/pickup WILL try to pass you on the right. Even if your turn signal is on to return to that lane.
