ONE MORE REASON TO NOT JUST TRUST A GPS:

(From Schneider "Pumpkin Drivers" FB Community...)

Dear truckers traveling from hwy 127 between Pikeville Tn and Crossville Tn. OR coming off Shut In gap rd on the mtn.Your GPS IS WRONG DO NOT TAKE LOWES GAP RD! This little side trip will either cost you your life, or a $5000 minimum service fee. This rd as it starts up the mtn has signs that plainly say no trucks. It turns in to a gravel one lane goat trail that hugs the side of the mtn with a shear cliff drop ,With 4 hair pin turns. Our fire dept and police have had to remove not 1 not 2 or even 4 but 10 yes 10 semi's from this road in less than a months time. I am asking yall to make this post viral on all trucker fb pages. This short cut isnt worth your life or you truck . Disclaimer these pictures are not mine but are from ppl in our community I borrowed in Hope's to save someone thank you all

I’m fairly sure there are highway signs in the area stating something to the effect, “Truckers, ignore your GPS”. There are several areas I’ve been through with this same problem.

When my gps is annoying and irritating, trying to reroute me on roads I don't wish to take, I simply turn off the sound. But I ignore it at least 90% of the time anyway. I do like the "map in my face" however, because that's pretty handy on unfamiliar routes.

Makes me wonder if this route has been reported to the GPS companies. I'm sure theres a way they mark it as a non truck route.

For sale: Cobra commercial GPS in the box. Used it 1 day, repackaged it when it told me to take a "non truck route". I was in unfamiliar territory but I did not let Mr Cobra convince me to take that road.

my map book has never misguided me.

A lot of current drivers depend on a GPS to guide them on the highway. A good old Rand McNally Truckers Atlas is hard to beat for accuracy and a wealth of information. Drivers should not rely on a GPS as it can't determine size or weight of a vehicle. A short cut could be your last ride.
