Hey Big T, this isn't really the kind of advice we're here for. We focus on helping newcomers to trucking figure out how to make a good start into their new trucking career.
If you are new to this, then you've already started down a pretty tough path. You are already realizing the need to cut expenses. The cost of being in the trucking business is very high when you compare it to the revenues. That's why most successful trucking companies have operating ratios typically around 97%.
You can find some great answers to your question over at OOIDA.

This is a situation i come across quite a bite : The insurance rates in FL for people running under their own authority should be considered criminal. So i see a lot of FL people registering their authorities in different states. Some company will want you to get a license from that state within 30 to 60 or they will cancel, some will not insure you while others wont give a sooth about where your license is from. But when you do so always make sure that you also rent a parking spot in that state even though you might not be garaging there for some will rate you by your garaging address. Hope that helps
I'm a FL resident but found out I can save quite a bit of money on insurance in another state. Can I register my authority in that state and be an owner/operator with a FL CDL? Any potential issues with the insurance company? Would they be able to insure me at the lower rate in that state with a FL CDL? Thanks
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
