Well I passed. Way easier than I ever dreamed. I really did get good training. I missed one point on my pretrip. No points on my backing, and I got 6 points on my driving. I’ll add more next week, but it’s been a good day, and my family just got into town for a wedding and it’s time to relax and have some fun.
I want to say again to all the experienced drivers thanks for all the info. This site is amazing and has really prepared my for the schooling
way to go!!!! Feels great doesnt it? Hold on tight, things are about to get crazy....in a good way of course
Awesome news to read tonight! Congratulations to you!
I just want to do a wrap up of school. It was a whirlwind going to school while still trying to work, and being hit almost daily with recruiters visiting.
Overall going to transtech was a very positive experience. They train for a lot of different trucking firms. There was a lot of students there for swift.
The instructors were all very knowledgeable with tons of experience. I will say a couple of instructors didn’t want to be there. They bad mouthed trucking to the point some students were questioning getting into trucking. On our 3rd day the guy that was going to teach us combos and airbrakes was out sick. Our sub for the day started the class by going I hat teaching f$&king airbrakes. Lol all three of us failed the combo test for our permit the next day. The reason we passed airbrakes was the instructor the day before hit the main point for airbrakes. That was the only hiccup.
For the most part even the negative instructors were polite and worked with the students. We all passed our tests the day of testing, and again this was a very positive experience.
Do your homework. I would recommend this school. I paid my own way going against the advice of this forum. However I have a stellar record, and have no fears about something being found. Chances are if you are in the Carolinas, and going to swift you will go through transtech. They had a ton of swift students. One caution is swift doesn’t mess around their were a couple students sent home for swift, so behave yourself.

Well I’m currently on my last night of training. I’m on lunch. I have an hour of driving left to go, then go home go to bed and come back in the morning at 9:30 to test out.
I feel pretty confident. We did backing tonight in the truck we test in tomorrow. I did my offset fine, 90 was a bit off but I got it in. If I’m going to trip up it will be because of nerves on backing.
I haven’t updated much, but will do a full overview once I’m finished up. A lot of good, a little bad, but all and all money well spent imo.
