Thank you all for the information! This weekend I picked up a nice pair of boots and a carhart jacket. I have no doubts November and December in Gary will be a hole different monster than Winters in Ashland.
Just an update:
I'm scheduled to start training November 25th in Gary, Indiana. I'm currently working out my notice at my current two jobs. I go tomorrow for my drug screen, which I have no worries considering I've worked a job for the past 12 years that does random drug tests.
Been researching flatbed trucking on YouTube and here on Trucking Truth as that is what fleet I'm going into.
I'm really excited to get this journey started!
Awesome, Brandon. We'll be following along.

Hey Brandon, you'll want to go through this lengthy thread here on Trucking Truth. I believe it holds the record as the longest conversation in our forum.

Thanks Old School! I'll definitely check it out.
Thank you for this thread sir. I will be following closely as this is the company and school location I have picked to hopefully attend in the spring. Good luck.

No problem. Once I actually get to Gary I'll try and post everyday with updates.
Operating While Intoxicated
Today I went to a local Occupational Medicine office and took my urine and hair follicle test. I'm not worried as I have had a job with random drug tests for the past 12 years.
Now I just have to continue getting things ready at home to be gone for a while. I have to check in to the Best Western in Hammond on the 24th with training starting on the 25th.
I'm really excited to get started.
Nice, sounds like things are progressing nicely.

Hey Brandon, be prepared to have another physical done after arriving in Gary for orientation and training. This is a common practice. Also realize they may require you to do a "sleep study." This has become sort of a "CYA" practice when hiring new drivers.
I just want you to be mentally prepared for these things. I've watched countless newbies throw up their hands and give up their quest over this. There may be some delays that get in your way. I know because I had plenty of them. Persistence, and jumping through the hoops they ask of you, will only help you get your foot in the door.
