I’ll be heading to Smyrna Delaware March 1st for orientation. Thanks for taking the time to write about your experiences, it’s helped me a lot. It sounds like a great place to work and I’m looking forward to it.
My pleasure, Brandon. Welcome to the WMPF.
Unfortunately the covid age has caused many drivers to miss out on the whole Bentonville onboarding experience. Orientations at the DC just aren't quite the same, but nevertheless you'll come out of it a new person and driver. Good luck and let me know if I can help at all.
I roll through Smyrna every few months, maybe we'll cross paths.
I hope you don’t mean they don’t feed us as well as they did you in Bentonville lol. I was looking forward to the food.
Lol. Fingers crossed 🤞 for you

So do you go out for five days staying at DCs and then you home for the weekend? I had one of our recruiters reach out to me on LinkedIn. I'm currently an LTL driver in Ohio that is home daily.
Refers to carriers that make a lot of smaller pickups and deliveries for multiple customers as opposed to hauling one big load of freight for one customer. This type of hauling is normally done by companies with terminals scattered throughout the country where freight is sorted before being moved on to its destination.
LTL carriers include:
I do go out for five days, staying at DCs, Walmarts, rest areas, etc. but my start day isn't always the same due to the schedule program I opted for.
Most drivers have a set start day, meaning you'll start your five days on the same day each week. So if your start day is Wednesday, you'll never have a Sat Sun "weekend" in the traditional sense unless you take those days off. Your weekend will be Mon & Tue. Eventually when you build up enough seniority, you can get that coveted Mon start day.
Many drivers are also home daily, if you opt for that program. There are several options available, depending on the DC.
My recruiter told me I will be doing a 5-2 5-3 and dispatch times of 14:00 or 15:00. It’s in Gordonsville Va, grocery I believe. Does grocery usually run more at night or vary?
Brandon , grocery runs 24hrs per day;
Dry van (non-perishable) typically runs during the day, can vary
Freezer, Dairy, Deli (FDD), day time
Meat & Produce (MP), overnight
Good luck!

You're going to love it after you get it figured out. Same deal at every store, so it's all pretty regimented and very little waiting around at shippers and receiving.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.
Is Walmart still using manual tractors at onboarding? I’m kind of looking forward to driving one again. My present company switched to all automatics a few years back. Kind of nice but would like to keep in practice.
