Fantastic, DMF. Great start! Congrats.
Well, thanks to this site and the excellent study material provided, I am happy to say that I passed the written portion of my CDL along with all endorsements with the exception of passenger and Hazmat. I had the procedure for Hazmat backwards; I need to provide my fingerprints and have background check done prior to exam. So, I have appointment tomorrow to start that process.
Now, onto the application aspect.
Way to go! Not sure where you are... IL is like that. Would have worked in WI!
Finishing up 2nd week with 2nd trainer. Have hauled placarded HazMat twice. 1st trainer couldn't take a HazMat load and wanted off early on Thanksgiving day so we didn't work because he doesn't have the endorsement. Apparently my company runs a lot of HazMat to TX (and I don't think there are issues getting loads back!)
Sure glad I listened when my instructor said "while you are in 'study and test-taking mode' you might as well get them all!" Passing on passenger but got the "Big 3" (HazMat, Tankers and Doubles and Triples). Training and testing gets tougher soon!
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
