Yesterday, Tuesday, December 17, is the day that law enforcement ended any kind of reprieve for truckers found to be driving without a fully compliant electronic logging device … in other words, no more grandfather, no more exceptions.

Hard enforcement for ELD compliance now in effect

I remember when the mandate for electronic logs came about. I was at a Love's truck stop on the night before the final, no-kidding, final straw deadline that would occur at 0001 the next morning.

So I'm in there at 2335, and another driver is at the counter completing his RM ELD purchase. He then asks the cashier if she knows how to install it, and how to operate it....

I bet this same scenario happened again somewhere this past Monday night.

Electronic Logs:

Electronic Onboard Recorder

Electronic Logbook

A device which records the amount of time a vehicle has been driven. If the vehicle is not being driven, the operator will manually input whether or not he/she is on duty or not.

rofl-1.gif wow! I understand for a small carrier if may be harder to afford a new system but that's definitely waiting til the mast minute. With the way many drivers are, I'm sure he would've been quick to post terrible reviews about Loves if they had been out of stock, or if nobody there knew how to install or setup.

I guarantee you the 17 year old girl at the register wasn't much help to him for the installation and operating instructions.

Just rolled past weigh station east of des moines. Everyone was getting pulled in to scale, inspection area was nearly full of bull haulers and other O/O trucks. Coincidence or checking compliance for ELD?

Just got pulled in for inspection myself, i-80, Nevada. Lots of company in the inspection area. It appears they are stepping up inspections, or just a coincidence.

My truck is a 99 so I still get to use paper but I sometimes wish i had an eld the times changes and that after a long day can confuse me so quick.
