After reading some of TruckerMikes pieces about company training it made me curious about trainers in general. Asuch as I like solitude and all of that I think being a trainer could be highly rewarding. So what do you have to do to become a trainer? After you have so much experience do you just start training people, or is there a program that you through to become 'ceetified' or something? How much more are you paid?

Also while on the subject... when it comes to showering I am under the impeession that you typically use shower credits tou get from fueling. For a driver trainer combo who gets the shower? Does it go to the trainer because its his truck, or the trainee because the trainer makes more? Or is it credited to the truck and they can each get a shower with it?

All major truck stops offer their own cards. If you fuel 50 gallons you get 1 shower point. You simply swipe the card when it prompts it on the fuel pump screen. If you do not have shower credits then it costs 10$. I have never had to pay the 10$, right now I have 5 shower credits. The credit has a 7 days expiration. When I was with my trainer he swiped his card to get the points everytime.

When you want to get a shower you simply hand the cashier your card and they swipe it. You ask for a team shower, which is basically two showers (one for you, one for another individual) but for only one shower credit.

Every company has different requirements for training.

with Swift (who I drive for), its 6-9 months of solo driving, you take one of their orientation classes for mentor, not sure if there is anything else, but afterwards, you'll be able to start training others. Swift will pay you the trainee's CPM (25Cents) on top of what you make, plus 1 cent for 3 months after he/she becomes a solo driver. you basically will make close to double. I think.... I have been thinking about if I stay with trucking. May be nice to have someone in the truck every now and again.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

The trainers should show ya how to get the fuel cards if they don't ,ask the truck stop clerk they will walk ya through it and for the showers some trainers use thiers others will use urs either way ya ask for a team shower, that will give ya each a shower of ur own,do not let a trainer tell ya that ya have to shower with them.
