I am starting a new company on Monday. I am hoping to get some general advice on going into a company as an "experienced" driver. Just what kinds of things can I expect. Any help is appreciated!
I'm not a trucker (yet) but hubby is; we live in the Buckeye, as well. More information will help the seasoned vets and mods on here give you some stout advice, I believe.
IE: Are you going from an OTR company to local? (or the flip side of that?) Lateral move, just different name on the door? Vans to reefer , or flatbed?!?
When my husband made a 'lateral' (kinda) move from hauling asphalt to where he is now, (hauling boxes in boxes, no joke....) the new company sent him to Chicago for a few days' orientation, after having him report locally to the yard he's out of, and taking a few skills' tests. Upon passing, they bought him the plane ticket round trip, came back, and was assigned a truck. Easy Peasy.
Experience level matters; another guy that works w/husband had to ride with a trainer for a skosh.. he had only a few months' OTR experience, overall. YMMV.
Let these wonderful peeps on TT know more, and you'll get the info you are searching~!
Best of luck; Anne :)
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
A refrigerated trailer.
I've done it about 5 times. Act just like the rookies and don't act like a super trucker. For the first month maybe, expect to not be treated like an experienced driver until you have proven yourself.
What company? I may have driven there already!
