Hello. I have my class A leaner's permit. I really want to go with Prime Inc because my goal is to become an Owner operator and Prime seems to offer a suitable path to that goal. I have a recruiter there, filled out the full application and now I'm waiting on approval. But just in case Prime rejects me, what other company can I apply to that would be very helpful in leading me to become a successful Owner Operator?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

Define successful. Are you talking about O/O running under their authority, or a lease purchase? Either way we discourage both. We have a few O/O here that have said it isnt worth it with the way the market is.

Go with Prime as a successful company driver: YES.

Go anywhere as a Fleece Purchase sucker: NEVER.

Try to become an Owner Operator with less than five years experience: CERTAINLY NOT.

Everette, use this link to apply all at once to many major trucking companies (we only send your app to ones who do well by their drivers):

Apply For Paid CDL Training:

Let the recruiters who call you know that you are willing to take on the care and feeding and capital exposure of a $250,000 chunk of machinery. Many companies love drivers who are willing to do the dirty work of maintaining a tractor for them.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
