This had been quite the ride. I’m thankful for exactly how it turned out. I must start this story off by saying I love jesus. I have a great life. A wonderful wife and two absolute blessings that are my kids.

Somewhere along the line some of it my doing some of it my wife’s doing, we fell out of church and actually separated. For over 4 years. We got back together 2 years ago, but it had been rocky the last year. We talked about church, but never went back.

Fast forward now to the trucking career. At one time I would constantly pray about things. Those days were long gone, and I did the trucking school with a great deal of uneasiness about it. It never felt right. I choose a company the same way. It never felt right. Guess what I never prayed.

I did something while on the truck that I hadn’t done in a long time. I prayed, and I prayed a lot. I truly believe everything happens as planned. I’m not bitter about the time with TMC. I’m thankful for it. I cried sitting in that Denny’s, not out of sadness but because I could see god’s hand on everything. I had some bitterness right after it happened, that’s just being human. It’s passed now. It was Thursday night when that happened and I couldn’t wait for Sunday. I made up my mind that I would be back in church, and that Jesus was going to be first in my life again.

I had planned on going back out with a new trainer I really did enjoy driving that truck, but each day that passed I knew it wasn’t for me. I can be kinda of stubborn, and I said I’m going to get a local driving job, preferably a smaller class B type job. Everything I read here and elsewhere said you need experience for that.

I applied at a ton of jobs. I got zero responses. Early on I saw an ad on Craigslist.(seems like most stuff on Craigslist is a scam these days) it was for driving a cement truck. It was close to the house. I didn’t call. I had all kind of thoughts. Mostly negative, and I’m not that type of person. You don’t have experience. The trucks are probably manual on and on. I didnt call. A week went by the ad was on again. This time I called. Guy was nice. He about jumped through the phone when he heard I lived close to the plant. Told me to stop by and fill out an app. I thought of a lot of reasons not to, but I did.

Two short days later I get a call, asking when I can meet for an interview. (Wow this is really happening.) we set it up 2 days later. My wife goes I got a good feeling about this. She was right. I interviewed with the safety manager. Super nice guy. Wanted to know why I left TMC. Told him I was struggling to back. He laughed, said I wouldn’t have trouble with here. Asked how much money I was expecting an hour. I told him well I have no experience so I don’t expect a lot told him my number. He laughed. Said this will make you smile and said it would be 3 dollars more than I had asked for 😳😳😳. Handed me a piece of paper and said go get drug tested, and just like that I had my local job.

I started last week. I believe in signs. I love cats, but I’m mildly allergic so we don’t have them anymore. I went to the main office and I walk in and there’s a beautiful cat, and I called him and the guy goes eh watch him he can be funny with people. He came right over and was so sweet, just happy to get some pets, and was purring up a storm. Made my day! It was typical first day stuff, and I was to go to the plant close to my house, the following day to start training.

I show up they plant is 7 miles from my house. Trainer is super nice, but half way through the day he told me I’d be training with a new guy tomorrow. I must admit I wasn’t happy cause I liked this guy. I got to unload the cement on our second load and drive the truck back to the plant. We got rain the next day. No driving. we hung out for a few hours. Shoveled a little sand and gravel.

Next day I get my new trainer. Holy heck this guy is awesome. Just on point. Goes I believe in repeat and reputition. I’m going to keep repeating stuff over and over, and he does, and it’s good. Come to find out he’s training me because I’m going to have the oldest truck in the company, and the other trainer doesn’t want to drive it. Nobody likes this truck I guess. I do, and my trainer does too. Is it old. Yep, but the company really maintains its equipment. I have no issues with it. I think they stick the new guy in it on purpose. I’m fine with that.

I love driving this truck. It’s a dream. I can back it without any issues, which I knew. Anybody should be able to. I can’t wait for work in the morning. I have another 8-10 days of training. It all depends on the weather. I’m in no rush and the company isn’t either.

I’m very happy I’m home every night. I’m off sundays and some Saturdays I get to coach my son’s baseball team. The pay is amazing. The same I would’ve made with TMC. Most important I’m back in church. I could go in to work tomorrow and get fired, and that’s ok, because God is good. He’s all I need! I’m so thankful for this journey. I’m thankful for this page, and you guys. You are all very honest and I hope you don’t mind me sharing my story like this. Thanks for reading!

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

OWI:

Operating While Intoxicated

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.

EPU:

Electric Auxiliary Power Units

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

The Lord works on mysterious ways. If this is the kind of trucking you like then I wish you all the best.
