Got the call today to come pick up my truck. It’s a brand new 2021 international, only has 1300 miles on it. Currently waiting to talk to my new DM for the next move. Still has that new truck smell in it. I am beyond happy, I never thought this day would come. I am wondering where the mattress is though. confused.gif

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

KUDOS, Harvest~!! I've been following along in and through your conundrums, just don't have much to offer most often. I'm so happy for you; wait until TURTLE shows up, I'm waiting! (I'm the 'other' Lurker, Rob D. ~!!)

Since it's a 2021, maybe the mattress isn't manufactured yet?!?!? rofl-3.gifconfused.gifgood-luck.gif

Just kidding, for sure. Wishing you the BEST... and FOLLOWING!

P.S.: Auto, I'm thinking? (the 'loaner' International at my hubby's yard is a 10'er....) PICTURES WHEN YOU CAN, please?!? :)

Focus focus focus, Harvest. You're about to enter the most difficult and dangerous time for a rookie. It's all on you now. There will be no one to fall back on, no one to tell you what to do, no one to guide you through a tight spot.

Your primary goal needs to be one thing and one thing only- safety. Don't let yourself get rushed into making an unsafe move.

Congratulations! You've come a long way, but still have a ways to go. Call me when you need me.

Oh, and I heard them harda$$es at Western don't need no stinkin mattresses.

At Swift, the shop has the mattresses.

And, .... You'll get that first pickup, and it'll be "new" all over again. Enjoy.

Lastly, switch your profile level to Rookie

I don’t know if the picture sent on my last post so I’ll try again. Thank you everyone, I’m spending the night here on the yard until my FM comes in to give me a load. Feels nice, I will be tremendously careful!

You get a mattress at the same time you get the first oil change, so you need to start cranking out some miles.

I went into the part shop and they gave me a mattress. The guy said that people will sometimes take the mattress from a new truck rather than go to the part shop O: picking up my first load here at the terminal. There was some confusion, I spent like 30 minutes going around the yard looking for the trailer. But it turns out the guy dropping the trailer off ran out of hours a few hundred miles away. So I will be heading out in the morning. Which honestly works for me. Get to enjoy my first night in my truck, and start driving on my preferred early morning shift.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

I also want to thank you Turtle, I couldn’t of asked for a better trainer to help me on the first steps of becoming a driver. It wasn’t a easy week for either of us. But you taught me some lessons I’ll never forget in my career.
