In my short career I have not experienced issues leaving my truck at a walmart or truck stop for a few hours.
I try to get in early, never park on the end, and keep my nose further behind people on either side. If I can park with only 1 space on my side, even better. I have only had to honk once. I find pulling sleeper curtains minimizes anxiety watching other people park next to me. I know my skills are very green and there are drivers of all capabilities out here.
Get yourself an attack Chihuahua for protection if necessary
Cargo theft does happen but most times you hear about it the driver was somehow involved. If your cargo is stolen an investigation will take place and you will be cleared of any wrong doing. With the amount of activity at truck stops it would be easy to tell something is going on. Unless a thief knows what you're hauling they're not going to go around just breaking seals and opening doors. I've been on this forum for a few years and cant recall a single post from someone who had their cargo stolen. Cargo theft does happen, but no where near as frequent as the show Big Rig Bounty Hunters would lead you to believe.
They put up a electric sign at the South Holland Il Oasis on 80/294 a couple weeks ago warning of recent cargo thefts in the truck lot. So it must occurr more than I thought it would.
Didn't someone steal a loaded tractor and trailer from the co yard a few weeks ago.If it happens there it could happen anywhere.
I 'preciate all the replies. Now I gotta get a chihuaja, jaja.
