Either people are still panic buying, or they emptied stores so much we're still sending out a ton. Work just sent a text begging drivers to come in. 271,000 cases 140 loads. That's just out of our DC, I'm sure the other 2 are similiar. A typical tuesday night/Wednesday morning is about 80 loads. They'll definitely be sending many loads out to brokers. We only have roughly 120 trucks.
On the brightside I was able to do our weekly shopping this morning and we got most of what we needed. Plus our bonus check should be real nice if we've had 3 record breaking days in the last few days. Today is going to shatter the previous record set a couple days ago by nearly 40,000 cases.
Turtle, G-town and Jamie how have your guys loads been affected by this? Are they allowing you to use the HOS declaration?
Operating While Intoxicated
I’ve been driving along the last couple weeks seeing this as much ado about nothing. Then I stopped into Kwik Trip this morning for coffee and found all of the coffee machines are out of service to prevent spreading the virus. Now I’m convinced it truly is the apocalypse. No coffee = the end of the world as we know it.
I don't have the numbers, but the load count at my DC has gone up significantly over the last two weeks. It hasn't affected me personally since I'm always busy everyday anyway.
A load needs to be specifically meant for a relief effort in order to qualify for the HOS waiver, and most of ours won't qualify.
Much busier. Sunday’s and Mondays are usually lighter... not now. Currently there are 50 surge drivers (usually 20) and Walmart is definitely using carriers rarely seen on store runs.
But like Turtle it hasn’t affected me that much personally, with the only exception the traffic increase within the DC and more time spent waiting for it to clear.
Pfizer just announced that they're working on a vaccine and they expect to begin dosing people "within weeks"
The government could soon say, "If you have a compromised immune system then self-quarantine. The rest of the population go back to doing your thing. We have a vaccine in the works. Things will work out fine."
This is costing the U.S. economy approximately $1 trillion dollars per week.
NYC just announced a "shelter in place" order is coming within the next 48 hours.
My prediction is the first military checkpoints will be in the streets by the end of the week.
High fever (but managing with tylenol and ibuprofin) honestly pretty much exactly like any flu ive had in my life so not some paralyzing plague the concern as they explained it to me is that once symptomatic its as much as 10’000 times more contagious i can tell you small town ny is not ready for this i had to drive to another county to get the test done and they came outside in space suits and did the tests in my pickup. My county dont have tests nor a protocol they told me public health department would be in contact which they havnt i did call them though and they gave me nys hotline number who in turn told me to call local county health department because theyve been instructed what to do so i just shook my head and gave up
Work at sysco in the coming weeks is going to be really weird.
What is the casino I'm going to going to order? I know the high school nearby isn't going to get anything. There's probably not going to be any restaurants or bars nearby getting anything either. Who am I going to deliver to? Or maybe everyone has staff there but not open and they're going to be half orders.
The only thing I can think of getting regular orders are hospitals and retirement homes.
Gonna have some easy weird days here soon.
Brett offers hope:

I'm hoping that my April 6 Prime orientation holds. I can maintain until then, but don't know what I'll that two week delay rolls over repeatedly.

That's my stance on it. Hospitals aren't equipped to deal with being overwhelmed that way. They're used to getting supplies as needed with some reserve and getting what that need within a day. Companies that supply hospitals also supply the public. With shelves being wiped clean they can't keep up with the demand.
That was me some years ago. Living in NYC at a dead end job, taking care of a family, barely making ends meet. There were some weeks I would have to overdraft my bank account at the ATM to make ends meet. It sucks.
Today, I'm in the position you're in. Secluded in the mountains with plenty of food and supplies with enough wildlife around to put food on the table for a long time.
