I’m in the SWIFT academy right now, and was just curious if there are any SWIFT flatbed drivers or mentors on here. The instructor we have only ran dry van and I’m the only one in my class doing flatbed, so getting any kind of info on what I’ll be doing is kind of scarce lol. Supposed to go to the Laredo terminal after the academy for securement training but that’s about all the info I know as of now. Any info is appreciated!

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Hay, Josh~~! Here's a link to a 'former' Prime flatbed mentor, and within the 1st post of this thread is a link to his entire diary; our Turtle has since moved on to WMPF (WalMart Private Fleet) after a few years with Prime:

Turtle's Year in Review Thread

I don't offhand know of any Swift flatbedders on here, but I could be wrong. Turtle's postings as a mentor with Prime can perhaps at least give you an idea of what you are to experience.

G'Town and Errol (both Moderators) are our Swift connoisseurs and Moderators, on the forum.

Old School is our Flatbed Guru (and Moderator!) of the forum, and hopefully will be along shortly to comment. He's got a WEALTH of information on flatbedding and trucking overall to tag links into here; he also has many blogs; so just put Old School into the search bar, and ye shall find. He started with Western Express, and moved on to Knight (all flatbed,) but he was already with Knight before the Swift merger. I'm sure he may have some intel, however.

Best wishes!

Anne
