From KCCI news the 2 scalehouses outside Des Moines will have free lunch available to drivers. If anyone is coming through tomorrow it'll be the eastbound scale west of des moines

DES MOINES, Iowa — A trucking association is offering some assistance on the road for truckers driving through Iowa this week.

The Iowa Motor Truck Association, the statewide trade association that represents Iowa’s trucking industry, will be providing 1,000 complimentary boxed lunches for truck drivers this week.

The association says distribution will be at two different weigh stations on Interstate 80 to have the largest impact.

The box lunches will be offered Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Jasper County DOT scale location. On Wednesday, the lunches will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dallas County DOT scale location.

The IMTA says it is providing business to local restaurants in collaboration with the Governor’s office and the Iowa DOT to show appreciation and gratitude for the trucking industry.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

I just saw this on FB. Times like these do bring out the best and unfortunately sometimes the worst in people.

If you are a truck driver, and are in the city limits of Corbin (exit 25) we will help you get food. Call us at our non-emergency number 606-528-1122 and an officer will be happy to assist you. Thank you for delivering goods to our country! Stay safe!

Sounds like a trap or some type of DOT sting operation to me. There is no such thing as a "Free Lunch."

More likely a free sandwich while we perform a Level I, II, or III Inspection while you wait.

Sorry I have a conspiracy theory mindset.

rofl-1.gif that was my first thought too. However I haven't seen any scales open in the areas I run since this panic started.

I'm trying to break free from my conspiracy theory mindset.

But, I will say that the new found appreciation for truckers has made me even more motivated to pursue this career.

My problem with conspiracy theories is that I find it difficult to believe that enough politicians/bureaucrats have the IQs and the ability to keep quiet to pull one off.

It's my experience that everything given to you at a scale house you end up paying for later. Nice if its true but I'd settle for having the rest stop parking and bathrooms open.
