Yeah because there's not enough work and the union contract says we have to be on 4 days minimum, only the top whatever of people (Determined but how much work there is I guess) are working 4 days a week rather than working the entire crew 1-2 days. Or on and off weekly.
Also we're opterating 4 days a week now instead of 6. (Although it was more like a 5+1 given how saturdays were. Everyday now is like a saturday)
Well now it's official - I've been furloughed from Sysco. I had the option of going into the warehouse but it doesn't make any sense, so now I'm basically added to a list of "on-call"
The amount of work and routes is probably varying day by day, so if there's not enough drivers to cover the work, then we get called in from the top down. And when work resumes full-time, we come back first before laid off people by seniority.
Unemployment is $740 a week so I can just take a vacation.
Even if I work a 14 in one day, that's only $450 so I still will be taking the same amount of money every week even if I work one day or not.
Boy things are interesting now.
Take the unemployment. The bill that just passed congress gives you a $600 kicker on top of your state unemployment benefits for up to 4 months.
So if your state gives you $400 a week, the feds will tack on an extra $600 a week. A $1000 a week for sitting on your ass.
They dont pull taxes but you have to pay it when you file your taxes
I need to move to your state. Here in California the max is 450 a week
Is that taxed?

You will not have to actively look for other employment. My sister laid a bunch of her employees off who are installers in her business. In Iowa they can receive 70% of to a certain max and it does not go against employer. So she gave her workers the option of staying on or drawing unemployment. The ones with families mostly took the unemployment and a couple stayed working and she can find them enough work till this blows over.
