New guy so not sure this is the right place for this post but I'm just looking for some info on Wel out of De Pere, Wi. Good, bad or indifferent. Driver facing cameras? Do they force dispatch? Northeast/NYC? Trying to get back into driving after being out 1 1/2 -2 years So checking out as many options as possible. 5+ years experience. Never a ticket or d o t violation or chargeable accident. Just looking to stay east of the Rockies and west of I-81. And between Canada and Mexico. Dry van preferably or reefer ( Wel ) if need be. Just looking for a decent, livable wage and no hassle. I know, wishful thinking.

Dry Van:

A trailer or truck that that requires no special attention, such as refrigeration, that hauls regular palletted, boxed, or floor-loaded freight. The most common type of trailer in trucking.

Reefer:

A refrigerated trailer.

What's wishful thinking?? A decent wage?? You make your own wages by running steady.

My first year back on the road (22 yrs off) I was paid .32 cpm , so I ran hard, doing 11000+/mth. That $42+K was decent. From there I've gone up in cpm and still run as hard as my dispatcher wants me to....widowed and only male goats at home so I can stay out for awhile. The load planner does plan on getting me by my house for 8-12 hrs when I run to OR or WA so that allows me to do laundry, get groceries and check mail.

No wishful thinking in this business...it's performance based.

Went to WEL yard for a company to pick up a load. Nice friendly people.

Laura

Dispatcher:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

CPM:

Cents Per Mile

Drivers are often paid by the mile and it's given in cents per mile, or cpm.

Ok, so Jeff apparently has some sort of issues going on because he came back with a lunatic rant out of left field, which I deleted. I don't expect he'll be back.

Oh well....

That's unfortunate that folks pop up on here, supposedly for answers, but not really interested in the answers. I don't understand why they take the time to even type.

Haha! He gave us plenty of clues in his first inquiry to give us pause. Some folks never learn how this business works. IDMtnGal gave him an excellent run down. Only a genuine terminal rat could take offense at that.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

And I just deleted his latest reply, for the same reason.

Jeff, when someone tries to help, you need to recognize it as such whether it's what you want to do hear or not. Save the childish snide comments for someone who cares what you have to say.
