Usually when ppl say something is 100% their fault they don’t go on to blame it on someone else
Just got fired at Western Express for in the front end of another truck in truck stop. Put hole n radiator and was towed. 100 percent my fault. Only exsc use I have is not having any sleep n over 3 days. Was only on day 3 with my trainer just out of CDL school.Had not adapted to sleeping n bucking sleeper. There is more 2 story concerning trainer but matters not now. Owe 6k to school no job C19 etc. Time is not on my side will be 63 in June. ? Any chance of getting a job driving or do I start apping at McDonald's ??

G.O.A.L. You neglected this basic fundamental approach to safe backing.
All the more reason, since you were dead tired.
Not excusing what you did but if you were only 3 days out with a trainer and got fired you may not owe for the school. Don’t have any idea how the contract reads but just saying, some companies if you don’t complete the training (other than just quitting) you may not be liable. Just curious though as to how the accident happened.

Am I done as far as trucking ???

Lol kid
I interpreted John's post as admitting he made a mistake and accepting responsibility for what occurred. Some people cannot immediately adapt to rotating or sporadic sleep patterns in their first week with a trainer. As G-town stated, even more so that John should have GOAL. Now, if he had been driving say, 5 months or so with 60,000+ miles under his belt and hit a mountain, and been fired a couple of times within his first year driving, then I could wonder if he was cut out for this.

Driving tired is very dangerous. Just saw a video of a tired driver dozing off and rolling his truck. Luckily he was on an empty road.
For any new drivers, it takes time to adjust to the sometimes crazy sleep patterns in trucking. It is important to GOAL. I got into some interesting problems as a new driver trying to park in a crowded truck stop at the end of a long day. Thankfully I didn't hit anything, learned tons and only damaged my pride.
Unfortunately, when truck drivers have accidents it is almost always our fault. It this case it cost the driver his job. One of the best ways to lose your job is hit something. This is not a guarantee. I had two students hit things during training. We did the right thing and they learned how to report these things with the company. In one case a customer's trailer was damaged. In both cases the drivers did not lose their jobs. Every company and situation is different.
It is important to know that when in the driver's seat you are in charge. You stop when you need to. Never let a trainer bully you into doing something unsafe. I reinforced this with my students.
I hope others can learn from this thread. My reply is not to address Mike, he knows what happened and is still learning.
Yeah 1 of our drivers fell asleep about 3 weeks ago @ 5:19am drove right off I-80 into the North Platte River beside the bridge !! Luckily he didn/t hit the end of the guard rail, coulda been lot worse...... Seen 3 pics posted by safety ,,,truck n trailer sitting in over 4 feet of water ..... Dunno what happened after, if he got canned or what
