The white Volvo Mafia strikes again. Yesterday I pulled into a Pilot near Hagerstown MD to scale my load. Small, crowded Pilot. The photo shows this truck parked in front of the scale. I could have gotten a better photo, but if you look closely you can see the scale in the bottom left of the photo. Driver went in to do whatever he wanted to do in the store. I’m behind him but I can’t get on the scale and I can’t even straighten out my rig because of this. So in turn, my trailer is blocking 2 fuel lanes. I went up to the Volvo and no one was in the seat. I banged on the door and finally a guy emerged from the sleeper, obviously just woken up. He said his co-driver had parked there and he would move truck, which he did.
Ironically, the company motto is “perfection in every mile”.
What can I say? How stupid and lacking common sense are many of the young drivers nowadays?

The new wireless pump feature
I didn't see it myself but one of the other drivers mentioned yesterday seeing someone on the CAT scale unhook from his trailer before weighing.
A network of over 1,500 certified truck scales across the U.S. and Canada found primarily at truck stops. CAT scales are by far the most trustworthy scales out there.
In fact, CAT Scale offers an unconditional Guarantee:
“If you get an overweight fine from the state after our scale showed your legal, we will immediately check our scale. If our scale is wrong, we will reimburse you for the fine. If our scale is correct, a representative of CAT Scale Company will appear in court with the driver as a witness”

Interesting. I never have seen or heard of such a thing. Why?
Trying to get a false scale ticket.

There could be all kinds of reasons to just weigh a trailer. I have to do this sometimes for the dedicated account I'm working. We sometimes haul material that is being returned to the manufacturer.
They want the weight of the trailer empty first. Then they want the weight of the trailer loaded. That way they can verify the weight of the returns. They give the customer a credit based on the weight.
Most of my points where I pick up the returns don't have scales. If I weigh my truck and empty trailer in Louisiana, then load returns in North Carolina, the weight of the returns can't be verified accurately due to fuel burn off or fuel added during the trip.
By eliminating the tractor from the equation, you can get an accurate weight of the product being returned.
