Hello All!

Well, I started with May Trucking A year ago January, 2019 and drove for a few months and had to get out due to health reasons temporarily. I am now ready to get behind the wheel again and am having a difficult time finding companies that offer refresher courses to get back on the road. Can anyone steer me in the direction of some decent companies to explore in the South Eastern US that will hire out of Florida? Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hey Brad, as you know, Florida can be a tough hiring area. There's three companies there that should probably be on your short list. Swift and Knight both have terminals in Florida, and I'm fairly certain each of them has a way to offer you some abbreviated form of training. Also, look into Cypress truck line. They have been offering training. They're mostly flatbed, but I'm pretty sure they're starting to do some other type freight now.

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Any reason you can’t go back to May? They have a location in Pensacola.

I spoke with May and they will take me back with one trip out with a mentor as I had a great report with them. Unfortunately they no longer train/hire out of Pensacola due to them currently not having any freight going through FL. Worst case I will relocate again, just trying to avoid that expense at all costs for now.

Totally feel your pain Brad K. I was in the same boat last year. Won't bore you with that fiasco. Other than the companies mentioned already, you can try Davis Express, Robert Bearden Industries & Marten Transport. All 3 offer southeast regional but I'm not sure if they offer training. Good luck.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.
