Not sure if real but I could use that 7/3 to milk some more B.S into my day. Hehe
Two years of comments, question/answer sessions, lots of meetings with truckers and trucking companies, millions of dollars spent for nothing. I'll never waste my time going to another "listening session" ever again. I'll never go online and take the time to fill out comments on an FMCSA page again, either.
Really PO'd because nothing was done about pausing the 14 hour clock "due to safety concerns". Really? Is it safer to drive tired some days, due to that unstoppable clock?
I'd bet after all the wasted time and money, it ended up being about 4 "experts" that don't even know how many tires an 18-wheeler has, sitting around a government table that came up with the latest load of crap for us.
After reading all the new rules, I am not feeling any trucker appreciation from the rule makers. Again.
The CSA is a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) initiative to improve large truck and bus safety and ultimately reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities that are related to commercial motor vehicle
The FMCSA was established within the Department of Transportation on January 1, 2000. Their primary mission is to prevent commercial motor vehicle-related fatalities and injuries.
What Does The FMCSA Do?
Well you can drive at under 5 mph for three hours now instead of just 2 before. And only have to say your in sleeper for 7 instead of 8. J.k
This is extremely disappointing, these new rules will not help me very much. I was hoping they would move the 30 minute break to not come off your 14 hours. Or get rid of it completely
The Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation and makes recommendations concerning education, treatment, follow-up testing, and aftercare.
If the 30 minute break can be satisfied by on-duty, that means Sysco will expect us to keep delivering and not take one. Also I guess that means we'll have a reset 8-hr clock at every stop.
I guess there's the same situation with the short-haul exception changing from 12/14. The only place that would matter is if we still had a 16 hour exemption and tried to use it.
Interesting... I thought more people would like these changes lol. I must have misunderstood the 8/2 and 7/3 split because I thought the article said it wouldn't count against your 14, meaning you could essentially pause your 14 with 2 and 3 hours in the sleeper.
I HATE the 30 min break and would love to see it gone but I'll take the revision of it because I usually have 2-4 stops taking anywhere from 10-45 minutes, depending on how many cars I have to unload and how fast the porters are at checking them in.
PackRat, you can pause your 14 with 2 and 3 hours in the sleeper. Is that not what you wanted or what do I not understand?

Sorry guys was kidding too much. The 8/2 or 7/3 does pause but as far as I know only the 7 or 8 sleeper pause it. As it reads even 2 or three off will pause 14. But would need to be followed by the other 7 or 8 to count I believe. Otherwise this just became the wild west and my logs dept is going to be like what are you trying to pull off now. Is legal all I need to know. Btw that 5 mph stuff is funny farthest I've made it without kicking into driving status was like 1000 feet. Screwed myself over with that like twice.
Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.
Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.
Ok reread the two and three are supposed to be off. 2 or 3 sleeper won't pause anything like currently. But waiting at shipper or reciever for 2 or 3 off then minus drive time and taking 7 or 8 continuous sleeper will give your time back. Essentially paused. Still helps in a pinch.
The customer who is shipping the freight. This is where the driver will pick up a load and then deliver it to the receiver or consignee.

Hos final rule
Is this real? If so, what does everybody think?
I like it for the revision of the 30 min break, I could care less about everything else but that's only because I drive a day cab for now. I can see how the other changes would greatly benefit drivers in adding some much needed flexibility.
Day Cab:
A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.
HOS:
Hours Of Service
HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.
