So got my truck assigned to me and my boys named it The Bulldawg Beast. I got a load assignment. For in the morning about 1 in the morning inkiti my battery was completely dead in the truck. Now I was parked behind the shop so i was told by breakdown to talk to the shop to jump the truck. Pretty much it needed new batteries.. well then longer its in the shop the more they were finding things wrong with the truck. The whole time I am emailing my dm updating him on the truck. Im emailing him because the only way to contact weekend dispatch is through the Qualcomm and i can't get to it. So the truck has been in the shop all day and is still there and won't be done until Monday. On the western express app you can read messages but not respond. They just sent me one telling me im still on a load and to inform them that the truck is still in the shop. Now how in the world can I inform you if the only way to contact you is from the Qualcomm and the truck is in the shop. Is there something im missing?

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Dm:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Any phone number you can call?

Any other drivers parked there at the terminal? Maybe get one of them to send a message in on your behalf?

Did you explain your dilemma to a shop supervisor?

Terminal:

A facility where trucking companies operate out of, or their "home base" if you will. A lot of major companies have multiple terminals around the country which usually consist of the main office building, a drop lot for trailers, and sometimes a repair shop and wash facilities.

Call the # you were given for your DM, the night and weekend crew will answer that phone as well. Let them know what's going on and they should cancel that load. Just let your DM know when you are ready on Monday.

Not sure if all companies do this but unless the truck is on a hoist for tires or suspension, our shop will let drivers into the truck while it’s being worked on. I’m sure the shop can figure out a way to let you send a Qualcomm message.

It is a real dilemma the tornado that his tenn a couple months ago has had western exp phone lines down. So unless his dm gave him his private line qualcom is the only way. I also agree as a shop supervisor for assistance.
