Hello and welcome to TT. I have been a Prime driver for almost 5 years and a team trainer. You will go through the program but not test out with the DMV examiner. You must have kept your DOT physical.up to date however, if not, your CDL was already downgraded. In that case, you would go through the program and test.
it happens all the time, so no big deal.
😁🤞 good luck
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:
A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.
State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.
The state agency that handles everything related to your driver's licences, including testing, issuance, transfers, and revocation.
Kearney- Excellent!- Your quote below!! Good info and concise. I had the same question as Paul. .

If someone has experience driving but not OTR , their training may be abbreviated. I met someone that drove doubles for a beer distributor but only drove intrastate. He only had to do 25K miles with a trainer. Others that had their CDL from a school had to stay out for full training.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
The act of purchasers and sellers transacting business while keeping all transactions in a single state, without crossing state lines to do so.
Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
When I was with PRIME My first trainee had his CDL but hadn't used it so he went through a modified PSD class, this is 6 years ago, he requested it. After our training time he did test out but just with a school instructor to insure he was up to snuff. He was still required to do 40,000 miles of TNT time (I believe its 50,000 now). The time goes faster than you'd think. Good Luck

Prime Inc has a CDL training program and the first phase is referred to as PSD. You'll get your permit and then 10,000 miles of on the road instruction.
Prime’s PSD begins with you obtaining your CDL permit. Then you’ll go on the road with a certified CDL instructor for no less than 75 hours of one-on-one behind the wheel training. After training, you’ll return to Prime’s corporate headquarters in Springfield, Missouri, for final CDL state testing and your CDL license.
Prime Inc has their own CDL training program and it's divided into two phases - PSD and TNT.
The PSD (Prime Student Driver) phase is where you'll get your permit and then go on the road for 10,000 miles with a trainer. When you come back you'll get your CDL license and enter the TNT phase.
The TNT phase is the second phase of training where you'll go on the road with an experienced driver for 30,000 miles of team driving. You'll receive 14¢ per mile ($700 per week guaranteed) during this phase. Once you're finished with TNT training you will be assigned a truck to run solo.
It is 60,000 miles now for those who come to Prime with a CDL but no experience. They are also paid at a lower rate.... $600 per week for several weeks (i think 6) then they get bumped to $700.
Prime places people in "seat class". so a CDL holder with no experience would be a class C. when they upgrade to a B2, the pay increases. This would be someone who has some experience At B1, the pay goes up to $800 per week. Someone as Splitter described would be placed in this.
then you upgrade to an A seat.

I’m looking into the Prime PSD program and already have my CDL. The reason is that I don’t have any experience and it’s been almost a year since I finished CDL school. I have no problem going through a training program. My question is this. Has anyone else, that already had their CDL, gone through the Prime PSD program? And once the PSD phase was completed, was it necessary to test with DMV?
Thanks
