Paul, you shouldn't even concern yourself with trying to forecast freight volumes. I teach people all the time to focus on proving themselves reliable dependable drivers. That's what drives people's trucking careers. It's not the type of freight, nor the company's name, it's not even the state of the economy. Trucks roll in good times and bad. The drivers who are battle tested, easy to work with, and rock solid performers will always get preferential treatment.
I've been extremely busy these days, more so than normal. I'm a flatbed driver. To be honest with you I have never felt any effects of any of the various slow downs in the economy over the last eight years or so. Jump in here and build your own value. That's how trucking works.
Gotta say, I've been busier in the last four weeks than on average.
According to Truckstop.com, over the past three weeks, freight levels are on the upswing, even tankers.
When weekly numbers are compared with the same period last year, freight for the month of May is between 75% and 80% from a year ago. Freight volume has always been a great prelude to the economy, so it is going to improve despite all the Fake News.
Once the liberal left figures out they were foiled again, people will return to their lives, and freight will slowly rise again.
Last week someone opened the chemical tanker valve for sure. We pulled loads as fast as we could run them. They even preloaded 2 loads for us to pickup as soon as we could get back, that almost never happens. Not sure what happened, but I am thankful. The current one pushed out 1 day for delivery so I stopped by the house for a day.

I’m trying to decide whether to start my trucking career driving flatbed. I am concerned over the amount of freight that’s going to be like over the next year. With the economy in its current state because of covid 19, will this have a significant impact to flatbed freight? I’d hate to start with a company and be sitting idle.
