I am about to bring my cat on the truck with me. I would like to hear from drivers who have had their pets on the truck for some time, how do you get you dog or cat to the vet when you are on a load hundreds of miles from your own vet, and your truck won't be able to park at the vets office in the city you are next to?
If you cant find a vet in a strip mall or large parking lot I'd call an Uber or Lyft.
There are lots of vets that are not in big cities. I actually park my truck in a lot next to our vet when I am home for the night. Just need to do a little research.
Hi Patrick,
When I brought a dog on the road it wasn't easy. I would highly suggest getting a vet through PetSmart cause they are usually located in some kind of mall. As far as emergency care, the one time that my dog got a horrible rash at midnight, I had to look up 24 hour vets in the closest big town and tried to find one. Luckily I found one, but it took many calls and had me very stressed out.
Get a vet at home that is familiar with your critter. Tell him you are going over the road and see if they will take a phone call in an emergency. Also see if they have a list of vets in different States that they can refer you to if your critter needs seen or needs meds picked up.

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
