Are endorsements stating that you have general knowledge in that particular field and have passed a state knowledge test? I do understand that the more endorsements you have the more doors can be opened for you in your career. I'm looking for a clear answer of what an endorsement is exactly.

I'm getting things in order now.....my time is coming up pretty fast :)

Yup...you have it right...like the Air brakes certification you will get...it will ensure that you can crawl under a truck, in the dirt, with 2 inch fingernails...and totally and correctly adjust ALL of the brakes on your truck and trailer....I learned to do this...and I did this to prove I knew how to do this..and thats the last time I did that.... Your tanker, doubles , etc...they tell the DOT that you have passed the required test, that shows you have the general knowledge..thats it.

DOT:

Department Of Transportation

A department of the federal executive branch responsible for the national highways and for railroad and airline safety. It also manages Amtrak, the national railroad system, and the Coast Guard.

State and Federal DOT Officers are responsible for commercial vehicle enforcement. "The truck police" you could call them.

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

Why on earth would I crawl under my truck in the dirt (yuck) and get dirty when I could find someone to do that for mesmile.gif And freespirit yes endorsement are general knowledge of the particular endorsement. Extra training is provided for tjings like tanker, doubles/triples and hazmat on the job. Just like with anything in the trucking work. They teach ya the basics at first and you get on the job training later

HAZMAT:

Hazardous Materials

Explosive, flammable, poisonous or otherwise potentially dangerous cargo. Large amounts of especially hazardous cargo are required to be placarded under HAZMAT regulations

Doubles:

Refers to pulling two trailers at the same time, otherwise known as "pups" or "pup trailers" because they're only about 28 feet long. However there are some states that allow doubles that are each 48 feet in length.
