I'm a solo driver and I prefer doing most of my driving during the day. Mainly, I will use it if I get a middle of the night delivery or pick up appointment, I use the split rule to push part of my clock out to make the appointment and then to reset it back to days.

While team driving, didn't come across any time that it was needed. May come in handy if one driver has run out their 70 hour clock and the other driver needs to meet a tricky appointment.

Yea team trucks should never have to worry about it cause when your shift is up or run out of hours your partner can take over and continue down the road.

I guess that is why I haven't heard of this. BUT I did notice it on the qualcomm once and couldn't figure it out. We have always thought our qualcomm was just mentally handicapped sometimes. I guess it was using this rule. Lol! Shows who had the handicap.

As team we rarely run out of hours. And whenever we get in a bad spot I ask the fleet manager for a slower load so we can each get a restart. I was kind of concerned about starting with a fleet manager who didn't know anything but I have learned along with him and it has worked out. We have his back when he makes an error and he has ours when an issue comes up.

Qualcomm:

Omnitracs (a.k.a. Qualcomm) is a satellite-based messaging system with built-in GPS capabilities built by Qualcomm. It has a small computer screen and keyboard and is tied into the truck’s computer. It allows trucking companies to track where the driver is at, monitor the truck, and send and receive messages with the driver – similar to email.

Fleet Manager:

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

Dispatchers make mistakes?shocked.png

That's about as rare as a O/O being broke.....

Oh wait....oh ok well I guess dispatchers are human also so I can see that happening from time to time. But from what I have been told by O/O's that they make plenty of money and that is right before they pull out of a truckstop and still have unrepaired stuff on their truck. Pride....it's the reason businesses fail in trucking. That and greed.
