I saw this at a trucking company and wondered if this was a pretty standard way to pay drivers.

Trucker Trucking pays on the percentage of gross we charge the customer.

Driver Pay Schedule:

0-6 Months 25% Of Gross - Driving School Graduates 6 Months-1 Year 27% - Driving School Graduates 1 Year or more - 28% Annual percentage increase based on performance, awarded each year of service

It is quite common for flatbed loads as far as I know. Not sure why exactly.

That's true - a lot of flatbed companies tend to pay percentage but it isn't limited to just flatbed. Personally I always avoided percentage pay simply because there is no way on Earth you can really know what a load pays. All you know is what your company tells you. When you're getting paid mileage you can verify all the numbers and make sure everything jives. With percentage, you get what they give you. I never liked that.

Yeah I agree with Brett. I know TMC pushes the percentage pay option a lot. But they give you a choice.
