Thanks for the input Squid!! I am anxious to get started, dont hesitate with any tips/suggestions. I start the 28th.
Be early, use your manners have homework done early. Any chance you have to get behind the wheel jump on it, it will make things easier when you get with your trainer. Where are you from?
There is a good chance I could be your trainer
I am in West Columbia SC. Still have a few more months before i start school with SAGE, though.
But I know your question was for Mike
I am about 60 miles west of Chicago.
I'm going to be running up north for a few months and my kids are in Chicago so they are going to try and keep me trainees from that area
So maybe I will get a chance to train up here, I was told they are a little light up here with regard to trainers and couldn't promise I would be able to train up here. I was planning on staying down there for the full 7 weeks. That would be a bonus to train in the Midwest. I am in the Rockford area. I wish I could get some windshield time before going down for orientation. Not very likely though. Dont worry, if they do put us together I have been traveling for 15+ years all over the Midwest, Colorado & Texas, mostly by car so I know how to plan a trip. I come from a long line of truckers including my dad, stepdad, brother, and two stepbrothers so I am pretty current on the industry and am not going in blind and have no illusions about the first year. I will bust my a** and all I would ask is to be treated right and taught good, safe habits. I will do the rest. I fully understand this will be what I make of it. I look forward to meeting you, and training with you if that happens.

I am a trainer or as we call em a driver mentor. Week 1 is what a call a freebie week, we are learning each other and you are learning the rig. There is a lot of training on ld securement and practice of backing and driving. Week 2 we are going to key in on areas that need improvement floating backing etc. Week 3 you're making all the calls trip plan, load checks, and during this week you will do one load absolutely solo to get a feel of what it's like. Week 4 I am there bc I have to be lol but it's your show and I will teach you some of the cool stuff in the industry. I am getting ready to head north for a few months to make some extra money. If you have any questions feel free to ask. A bunch of good guys here. Best of luck.
