Jake, Exactly this Dr. who is a Chiropractor used the point system on me. He stated to me the following. 1) Age: 40-50 2) Neck diameter: Thick neck was very athletic in HS with sports & weightlifting. 3) Type 2 diabetic: with a very stable A1C which I showed him my medical records/lab results, diabetic eye exam results. 4) The fact that I take B/P medication even though my reading was good.
This dude is in it for a pocket lining I’m sure...!! Now when I told the company that I wasn’t going to their sleep study clinic that I had my personal Dr set me up with a referral to a private clinic well let’s just say they came up for air and threw every curveball they could to try and persuade me to go to there clinic. I’ve been told by a very good friend who is in the medical field that these companies have a lower set number/s that they can go off of, but an actual private clinic will still read federal guidelined numbers which are a higher more passable reading/study.
If anyone is questioning sleep studies then do your homework!!!! 97% of studies performed are found that YOU have some sort of air blockage restricting your air way which causes disruption in sleep. Why do you think the Federal Government really doesn’t want to get involved with this stuff....It’s because there will soon be a major lawsuit going against all of it. Wait and see. But in the long run the Federal government won’t force the issue but WILL once a Licensed Sleep Study Dr has made a legal paper stating that you have a breathing issue while “Asleep”...!
Get out of here...!
Operating While Intoxicated
Go to your choice of MD. Get a legitimate sleep study done. They will use EEG, heart monitors, etc to determine your sleep pattern. You will know afterwards if you have or don't have OSA. I use a CPAP every night. Even while in the sleeper berth. I've been on CPAP for over a decade, probably closer to 20 years than 10. Comparing my health / alertness pre and post sleep study, I'm convinced I would be dead by now if not for the apparatus. YAMMD.
If memory serves, you are required to give explanation for the answer about a short duration card. The affidavit you sign says something about information being true and complete. Leaving off the information about a three month card would be where you get into trouble with auditors if a blue hair drives under your trailer tandems and takes a dirt nap. Again, your actual risk tolerance mileage may differ.
Good luck.
The portion of the tractor behind the seats which acts as the "living space" for the driver. It generally contains a bed (or bunk beds), cabinets, lights, temperature control knobs, and 12 volt plugs for power.
A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".

A few years ago the FMCSA issued a "guidance" on sleep apnea that turned it into a de facto rule. There have been a few panels with doctors and the sleep labs that have come up with all these risk factors for sleep apnea and the guidance said if there was more than 2 out of like 8 or something they should have a sleep study done. The FMCSA still hasn't made an official rule on it but the questionable Dr's like to point to the guidance as thier reasoning. So they do stuff like age and neck size which have the least amount of correlation with sleep apnea but also are the easiest to use to push drivers into getting sleep studies done.

Sleep Apnea:
A physical disorder in which you have pauses in your breathing, or take shallow breaths, during sleep. These pauses can last anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes. Normal breathing will usually resume, sometimes with a loud choking sound or snort.
In obstructive sleep apnea, your airways become blocked or collapse during sleep, causing the pauses and shallow breathing.
It is a chronic condition that will require ongoing management. It affects about 18 million people in the U.S.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager
The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.
