Unfortunately I do not believe he is a troll, I believe he is a well meaning person with serious psychological issues that probably should not be allowed in a truck.

My grandmother had paranoid schizophrenia her entire life, it became extremely bad for her last few years that she ended up in a nursing home on medication.

I sincerely hope you are able to get yourself together and get the help you clearly need.

Dispatcher, Fleet Manager, Driver Manager

The primary person a driver communicates with at his/her company. A dispatcher can play many roles, depending on the company's structure. Dispatchers may assign freight, file requests for home time, relay messages between the driver and management, inform customer service of any delays, change appointment times, and report information to the load planners.

My fellow Moderators, please stop approving KOs posts... he’s on watch for a reason.

They serve no useful purpose, he’s become a troll.

Should have slammed the door pages ago.

I started out with some sympathy for the guys plight, and some interest in whether or not he could find a company that would accommodate a "service dog" during OTR (team) training in someone else's truck. It's kind of a unique scenario we haven't come across here yet.

Elvis has left the building on that one.

When someone starts waving ADA statutes at companies - well - they have many other qualified applicants without such issues. It's one of the reasons Prime/etc., don't publish a list of "company no-fly meds" (in addition to FMCSA's list). They had a couple of legal issues with ADA as a result ("you're discriminating against me because of my mental health disability").

I'm trying to figure out how this guy (by his own comments) is homeless, in a tent somewhere, with high speed internet and his dog.

We're "beating a dead horse" into dust at this point.

Brett needs to lock this one - and if the argumentative behavior continues - lock the account.

Rick

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

I want to point something out to K.O. and any others that are curious about it. A couple days ago he said this in regards to his mental health history :

I'm also protected under both HIPPA and ADA from disclosing my past, and protected from being rejected due to that past if I did voluntarily release those documents to an employer.

This is a direct quote from the FMCSA FAQ

Regulatory requirements take precedence over the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

Exactly what Kearsey was saying. When I take my DOT physical I'm not required to supply them my health history and documentation showing I'm compliant with my CPAP for sleep apnea. However I will not be given a medical card and allowed to operate a CMV if I don't provide the documentation required.

I was referring to Kearsy's comment on her saying supplying them to a company vie "their doctor's". I was truthful on my DoT, and I have no restrictions. Yes I'd have to supply documents to DoT if requested, but not to a company or a training facility.

Kearsey was talking about the DOT. Nearly every reputable company uses an on staff doctor or sends you to a certain clinic that they have contracts with to get a new DOT physical. It doesn't matter if I receive a new medical card today and I start at a new company in a couple days. Most companies require you to get a new physical with a physician of their choice on their dime during orientation as a condition of employment regardless of how much time is remaining on your current card. After you get a new exam the newest one is what matters. The previous one is invalid. A member here had about a year remaining on their medical card. They were switching jobs and it was discovered he had undiagnosed diabetes. He was immediately disqualified from driving until it was under control even though the previous card had a year remaining. I'm aware of a couple doctors in my area by talking to other drivers that are very lenient on their interpretation of the requirements. The 2 companies I've worked at in my area have each sent me to different doctors and have supplied them with a list of medications that they aren't ok with. So while its true that you don't need to supply your documentation to your instructor at school, you will almost guaranteed be seeing a doctor of their choice that is aware of their requirements (which is nearly always more strict that DOT requires and perfectly legal) and signing a document allowing them the right to disclose your medical records to your employer.

Electric APUs have started gaining acceptance. These electric APUs use battery packs instead of the diesel engine on traditional APUs as a source of power. The APU's battery pack is charged when the truck is in motion. When the truck is idle, the stored energy in the battery pack is then used to power an air conditioner, heater, and other devices

Rob, I would encourage you on your next stop, to take a few minutes to find a fence post. You will have more success explaining to that fence post, what K.O. obviously is not comprehending. He has his DOT card, so companies be damned. You are obviously just another unintelligent, smelly truck driver (like the rest of us), who has no idea what you are talking about. That last sentence is sarcasm.

I would encourage you not to waste anymore of your time feeding the troll. Let him go through the process his way, and when he completes and passes his training, then passes his CDL driving exams and qualifies for his CDL licensure, then he can tell us "see, I know what I am talking about. You idiots had no idea about my special circumstances, so there!" I believe K.O. is going to be on the receiving end of a severe reality smackdown. He won't be able to come back and feign ignorance when it happens.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Although the OP doesn't seem to understand what we're trying to tell them it's more so for anybody else reading along. I can only imagine the number of people that see this thread now or in the future just lurking around the forum that may be in a similar position. I have had plenty of time waiting around today and did some digging. What I found is that the FMCSA prohibits anybody that's had a suicide attempt or been in an inpatient mental health setting to operate a CMV for one year. Back to what was mentioned earlier that's the MINIMUM and most companies are far more strict. If PAM is willing to accept the past give them everything you have because I can assure you there's many companies that it wouldn't fly. I sincerely wish you the best of luck in this endeavor, and that its everything you hope it to be. I'm still a little confused by the belittling of truckers yet you're wanting to get out here and be clumped together with such scum. Personally, I don't care what others think of me. I'm doing a job I love while providing very nice financially for my family which I never thought would be possible without a degree.

If you think smelling other people's farts are bad wait until you get out at the truckstop on a hot humid day and enjoy the aroma. smile.gif
