Tesla is leaving out a lot of information.
How long does it take to charge? What happens if the battery drains completely? What are they doing to make sure drivers have access to charging ports? Does the battery drain when the truck is off? How long can a truck sit before the battery is dead? How long would the battery last if I have to idle over night? Does this restrict where a driver can take their 10 or 34? 500 miles isn't a lot. 500 miles is a half of tank of fuel for me.
Call me crazy, but I love the sound of a diesel engine. Driving with no engine noises sounds brutal.

Right now - they're in "prototype" with Tesla "taking reservations". Nikola Trucks have been trying to launch for 6 years now (hydrogen hybrid), and taking "reservations". They're claiming a prototype by the end of '21.
Tesla Prototype Burning Rubber
Really doubt we're going to see these things actually out on the road for awhile - certainly not as fast as Elon claims (but who knows with him, he manages to pull off some cool stuff). Designed for short haul - hence the WalMart DC to Store type runs - 600 mile (claimed) range.
And they look to be DAY CABS - not sleepers. Though if they make any market penetration - Musk claims to be wanting to be at 100K units annually by 2023 (I think he needs to put the doobie down). If they do a sleeper and get a bunch on the road - we'll probably see Tesla branded Truck Stops with charge stations for overnight power/charge.
This is going to be the eventual direction we're headed (especially with Commifornias idiocy). Teslas autopilot hardware/software is pretty good - this is probably going to be the one of the interim steps to driverless trucks (or at least, trucks requiring minimal driver intervention on the highway).
But again - I think Musk is being characteristically optimistic here. More likely looking at 2023 before we actually start seeing deliveries of these.

A tractor which does not have a sleeper berth attached to it. Normally used for local routes where drivers go home every night.
