160 hours really isn't that much. Yes, most schools do require 160 hours. However, you can get into company sponsored training that is paid for by the company. There are some companies like Knight Transport that pay you while you are in school. Then other companies don't pay you for the first part of school and then pay you while you are in training on the truck after school. It is actually really cheap to start out.
A Company-Sponsored Training Program is a school that is owned and operated by a trucking company.
The schooling often requires little or no money up front. Instead of paying up-front tuition you will sign an agreement to work for the company for a specified amount of time after graduation, usually around a year, at a slightly lower rate of pay in order to pay for the training.
If you choose to quit working for the company before your year is up, they will normally require you to pay back a prorated amount of money for the schooling. The amount you pay back will be comparable to what you would have paid if you went to an independently owned school.
Company-sponsored training can be an excellent way to get your career underway if you can't afford the tuition up front for private schooling.
That 160 hours is not hard to get. And also remember that classroom time is also included. If you think about how long you train for and remember that your going to be in a truck every day that's pretty easy to come by and it goes by FAST. Just pay attention, dont make excuses, and study!! CDL school is not cheap by any means but these trainers are taking someone who has never been behind the wheel before and making them into Drivers that's 80,000 lbs of equipment that your responsible for so there is a reason its expensive.

Hello Is it true that you have to have 160 hours of truck driving school training to get hired? (Uninsurable in the company's eyes) I hope this isn't true! It would sure make a CDL expensive! Thanks for your time.
