Very few companies, but you might want to try Navajo Express.

Schneider hires for Western Regional. One forum member I referred to Schneider is doing that right now.T

They do not have company sponsored CDL training though so you'd have to go to a private school first. I am sure a lot of companies take new grads for Western Regional , just call and ask.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.

Regional:

Regional Route

Usually refers to a driver hauling freight within one particular region of the country. You might be in the "Southeast Regional Division" or "Midwest Regional". Regional route drivers often get home on the weekends which is one of the main appeals for this type of route.

Theres actually quite a few that run regional 11 western...but you need to call the companies to see if they hire recent grads....One of them that I KNOW does is Central. I also think May does, possibly Interstate , Gordon, Haney..You need to understand that you will need to go with a trainer...and that may well be OTR , all lower 48, and/or Canada. THEN, after you clear your training time, you may get a regional 11 western. You still have some learning to do...and lets face it...spending the next 4-8 weeks running all over the US....not a bad way to sight see, learn how to drive all over..and get your training time done....

OTR:

Over The Road

OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.

Interstate:

Commercial trade, business, movement of goods or money, or transportation from one state to another, regulated by the Federal Department Of Transportation (DOT).

Deb, it's a region - the eleven western states. Some folks just don't want to have to deal with the North East and would rather stay out west. A western eleven gig would do that for them.

I went to IITR in Clackamas Oregon. It was just under $5000 but I had a very good experience there. I needed to keep working while in school so their ten week weekend class was perfect for me.
