Had a big 2 days. Burned my 14 the day before but only used 8 on the drive line. Tight run so I did an 8/2 split. Started clock at 0520 at the minute 8 was completed in sleeper and got 3 hrs back. Pre trip and 20 minutes to delivery my it was a drop and hook. Asked receiver if I could chill for 2 hrs off duty. Complete 2 off duty and received my 14 with a 10 hr 20 minute drive. So I burned and turned until 2100. Didn’t feel right but my clock allowed it so I ran it as far as it didn’t violate my hos.

Drop And Hook:

Drop and hook means the driver will drop one trailer and hook to another one.

In order to speed up the pickup and delivery process a driver may be instructed to drop their empty trailer and hook to one that is already loaded, or drop their loaded trailer and hook to one that is already empty. That way the driver will not have to wait for a trailer to be loaded or unloaded.

HOS:

Hours Of Service

HOS refers to the logbook hours of service regulations.

The new rule extends your 14-hour clock by 2 hours for an 8/2 split and 3 hours for a 7/3 split. I have had both 16 and 17 hour days.

A glitch in the Prime ELD will add these together, to extend you ELD drive clock by 5 hours if you have separate off-duty periods of 2 and 3 hours to make for a 19-hour day. I have not done that because I don't think its legal to combine both a 2 and 3 hour split in one 14-hour clock.

It only extends the 14 hour, one can still only drive 11 hours. As a reefer driver I love it.
