At 21 years old and a whopping 3 months into my OTR career my company sent me on a 3-stop delivery....two in Bronx, one in Queens. Wanna guess how that went? Perfect! Oh yeah, no problem.
Yeah right!!!! It was a catastrophe!
I wrote a long story about it in my book Becoming A Truck Driver: The Raw Truth About Truck Driving. And by the way, that's a link to the 100% free online version of my book.
Here's where that NYC story starts: Page 38: Trip Into NYC.
What a mess! I've had a ton of people tell me they thought that story was pretty funny so it's worth a few minutes of time I think.
OTR driving normally means you'll be hauling freight to various customers throughout your company's hauling region. It often entails being gone from home for two to three weeks at a time.
Brett is that when you had to stop in the middle of the highway with another driver because of a low bridge and hop the curb and cut across the grass? If it is your right it is pretty funny.

I was still a rookie at the time and I was just getting comfortable with everything around me. As they say, "you know you are still alive when you learn something new" or something to that affect. Well anyway, I was under a load going to Kansas and as I said I was comfortable until I got to the receiver. That's when I remembered that I was still a rookie and still in the learning stages of this career. The door I had to deliver to was underground and extremely tight to maneuver. Once I was backed in I let out a sigh of relief and couldn't wait till my next new experience. Let me know if you have experienced this or anything similar that you would like to share with everyone.
