Welcome to the Trucking Truth site Nathan.

Why do you want to start driving hot shot?

Hi Nathan. I don't think we have any hotshot posters. This question comes up monthly, they say we're insane and then they disappear. Hopefully, you stick around.

Do you have any hotshot experience? Do you have a cash/credit reserve on the side for repairs, fines, slow periods and time off? Do you know how to use a load board or what the current rates are? What kind of freight are you looking to haul? Do you have any trucking experience?

The best way to start a business is to gain experience in it. I wouldn't start a restaurant because I've never worked in a restaurant.

Hello Everybody my name is Reggie I am a hot shot owner operator i have my Twic card my hope is to haul out of the ports cars or containers do anyone have any advice that they could give me to help me get jobs in the ports

Owner Operator:

An owner-operator is a driver who either owns or leases the truck they are driving. A self-employed driver.

TWIC:

Transportation Worker Identification Credential

Truck drivers who regularly pick up from or deliver to the shipping ports will often be required to carry a TWIC card.

Your TWIC is a tamper-resistant biometric card which acts as both your identification in secure areas, as well as an indicator of you having passed the necessary security clearance. TWIC cards are valid for five years. The issuance of TWIC cards is overseen by the Transportation Security Administration and the Department of Homeland Security.

I ran expedited back in the day... the fleet owner ended up loosing his shirt.

OOS:

When a violation by either a driver or company is confirmed, an out-of-service order removes either the driver or the vehicle from the roadway until the violation is corrected.
