Left to left right to right
There is a discrepancy between my CDL School Instructor and the CDL Examiner. I wanted to get the opinion from the veteran truckers here. (My instructor is a 28 year trucking veteran) btw.
When making a left hand turn from a signaled single left turn lane on a 4 lane divided highway (2 lanes each direction). Which lane is the proper lane to turn into: 1. The inside lane? 2. The outside lane? Hopefully the description is clear. Thanks
A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

In Arizona, it is the law to turn into the inside/left lane. Left lane to left lane.
ARS 28-751.2.
Left turns. The driver of a vehicle intending to turn left shall approach the turn in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of travel of the vehicle. If practicable the driver shall make the left turn from the left of the center of the intersection and shall make the turn to the left lane immediately available for the driver's direction of traffic.
>Bump< The road test course in Syracuse NY you have to make a left hand turn from the outer turning lane. The tests starts at the NYS Fairgrounds parking lot you get on Interstate 690 heading east for about a quarter mile the you get off the Hiawatha exit. At the bottom of the exit are two Left turn lanes. My instructors at NTTS couldn't stress it enough that you had to make the left turn from the outside lane to compensate for your trailer off tracking. It's a automatic fail if you were to turn from that inside lane. When I took my road test I was sitting in the outer turn lane and another driver pulling a step deck pulled up next to me on the left inner lane when the light changed he started off and off tracked the car in the opposite lane had to back up so his tandems would clear. I took the turn wide so I would have room to react if the other driver moved into my lane. I probably lost a couple of points because my tires rubbbed the curb but I finished the test and passed. So all was good. I guess every examiner has their own judgement on which lane to turn from. I always go to the outside turning lane.
A set of axles spaced close together, legally defined as more than 40 and less than 96 inches apart by the USDOT. Drivers tend to refer to the tandem axles on their trailer as just "tandems". You might hear a driver say, "I'm 400 pounds overweight on my tandems", referring to his trailer tandems, not his tractor tandems. Tractor tandems are generally just referred to as "drives" which is short for "drive axles".
