1. Just for clarification, the 70 hours in an 8 day period, that’s only for ON DUTY activities right? CORRECT.
2. So, if I go off duty when I’m at a shipper or receiver, or if I go off duty to take a shower at a truck stop or get something to eat, that stops the clock right? CORRECT
3. Or is all of that still going against my 70 hour clock? NO!!
Just like when you’re on your sleeper birth/berth it freezes your clock right? YES
Sorry y’all, I’m just trying to make sense of this.

Wow, 8 hours and 45 mins per day for 8 days. Now, within those 8 hours and 45 mins doesn’t that include your showers and bathroom breaks? Just because you go off duty doesn’t mean it stops your 14 hour clock. You get what I’m saying?
José, the 14 hours is a bracket that you get your driving done. You start your day with On Duty Not Driving for pre-trip and whatever paperwork. The 14 hours later limit is when you must stop driving. Then you can't drive again till after you take 10 hours off duty. Fun fact: you can be On Duty Not Driving for much longer than 14 hours. You just can't get behind the wheel till after your 10 hour break. You can always knock off early (like after you get 8 3/4 hours of driving plus on duty time). You can even take a shower in that 14 hour bracket and that does not affect the 8 3/4 hour you want to limit yourself to.
Hey guys,
Thank you so much for the help. It all makes sense to me now. I'm on the road right now and tried whatever you guys suggested and it makes sense and I get it now. For now on whenever I feel I'm going to be somewhere for more than 5-10 mins I will just go off duty.

Hey guys. I have a few questions. If I want to run on recaps how many hours should should I actually be driving per day? In addition, what about the time I need each day to get fuel and bathroom breaks and godforbid I want to take a shower?
I’m trying to add all this up and it seems like I would go over 70 hours in an 8 day period. Can someone help me figure this out?
If you run out of recap hours, usually it means your next dispatch is after midnight, not at the end of a 34.
Only on duty and drive time counts toward your 70.

You don't "freeze" or extend your 70 hour limitation the same way the 2 or 3 hour break "freezes" extends your 14-hour clock. 70 hours in 8 days unless you do a 34 - chour reset.
