Why get it, then wait to begin driving several months? It's really a useless endorsement unless you utilize it.

Obligations to my current employer. They want me to stay for most of the summer and I said I would. I wanted to have my CDL by the time I'm done with them so I can get right into driving.

Yes, I know In that case I should have just found a company training program to do after leaving my job. My mistake. Didn't do enough research before enrolling in this school.

CDL:

Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

A CDL is required to drive any of the following vehicles:

  • Any combination of vehicles with a gross combined weight rating (GCWR) of 26,001 or more pounds, providing the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed is in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any single vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 or more pounds, or any such vehicle towing another not in excess of 10,000 pounds.
  • Any vehicle, regardless of size, designed to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver.
  • Any vehicle required by federal regulations to be placarded while transporting hazardous materials.
