Hi! New here. My husband has his CDL but hasn't driven in a while so he is going to take a refresher course next week. He had a good job and we both worked at the same place, a gov't contractor, but he got laid off and I am still there. We need my income right now so we can pay the bills. I have learned that a company we thought we were safe at, me in my late 40s, hubby early 50's, nothing is safe. CT is pretty much losing jobs daily all over the state.....barely any manufacturing left.

I hate my job and absolutely hate the state I live in, so his getting laid off is really a blessing in disguise. We have been in a rut for some time, living in CT which to me is ridiculous with all the taxes, we do not like some new laws in effect here and our kids are grown and out. He asked if I would be interested in getting my CDL and why not?! We love to drive, we hate desk jobs and so it begins. I will wait and see for him to get established and then I will go to school. I know I don't need a school but would be more comfortable doing that. I can go on the weekends and still work during the week. We can be away from CT hopefully much of the time, sell the house in a year or two and relocate home base to New Hampshire.

So that is our plan :) We just need a better quality of life and do not want to go broke living here. Plus we will see more of each other as we worked opposite shifts when he had his job.

Nice to find this forum!

Kim

Kim !!! good to have you here !!!! And this is the place to learn everything you can learn BEFORE you go to cdl school. So start working on the High Road Training Program..that will help you to get your cdl permit, and any and all the endorsements that you want. If you finish the High Road before you go to school...you will be way ahead of everyone else in your class !! That may get you extra time in the training truck, cuz after you zing thru their book test..you can be out driving on the practice range while your classmates are struggling with their books. AND you will have an easier time in school....So get going with that, and cruise around ALL the forums...its a great site, and you can post anywhere you want, either here, or in the general forum.... Glad to have you here...

Follow your heart. It's been awhile since your initial post. Did I miss the update? How are you both doing? How's the life treating you? Best wishes. I'm a big fan of going against the grain (i.e. the "norm") because you can't put a price on happiness and the journey alone is worth the trip. :-)
